Pet Remedy and why we recommend it for our rescue pets.

Two rescue German Shepherd dogs

Over the years, both myself and Stuart have rescued over 20 German Shepherds and worked with many more. It is often the case that we want to do the best for our new pet, but they seem “so ungrateful” for being rescued. Those first few days so such a worry and this is when so many newly rescued dogs are returned because they don’t fit in. You need to get some help and fast.

Pet Remedy is a unique and patented formula of low concentration of Valerian absolute oil with small inclusions of Vetiver, Basil and Clary Sage essential oils which was developed and make in the UK as the result of a cat called Tigger with behavioural issues!

Here is what they have to say "Pet Remedy was developed with the help from a team of Vets, Veterinary nurses, a Psychiatrist and drawing from the experience of aromatherapy and essential oils. It was so effective that after a further three years of development and trials with the RSCPA and two Veterinary practices, the product was launched in 2010 and patents granted in 2016.

Pet Remedy works with the pet’s own natural calming mechanism, GABA (gamma amino butyric acid), which is a natural calming agent present in all mammals, birds and reptiles. It is a low concentration so very gentle in its calming effect.

When a pet becomes stressed or anxious, as all our newly rescued dogs and cats can be, Pet Remedy helps fired-up nerve cells to thing they are getting a message from the brain to calm. This is why it starts to help instantly. (as explained by Dr. Flo Watt MRCPysch (Consultant Psychiatrist)

Some of the signs of Stress can include:

  • Behaviour change

  • Spraying/soiling

  • Over grooming

  • Lack of interaction – maybe seeming to have shut down?

  • Pacing

  • Loss of appetite

  • Chewing

  • Aggression

  • Scratching – lots of it

  • Yawning

You will often see a change in demeanour of stressed pet within a few minutes as the de-stress and calming properties take effect. "

But remember, Pet Remedy is only a support mechanism that helps calm excited nerves. You still must deal with the learnt and reactive behaviour and so we need to train them our new rescue friend. The advantage of using Pet Remedy is that a calm animal will learn better and quicker. They are more receptive and attentive to you and you can then teach them. And you will soon know when you have run out as their quickly become less attentive again.

Available as a calming spray, wipes and as plug in, we recommend that you look at installing some at home and in the car and watch how your new rescue begins to pay more attention to you. And then get training and learn together to become the perfect companions you have always dreamed of.
